The geology division develops studies and designs related to the fields of environmental geology, ground-water and geotechnics. This division operates in direct contact with the others in order to achieve a complete site model suited for the specific engineering issue. The geological and geotechnical site modeling is often implemented with numerical analysis (finite elements) to give a realistic model of underground conditions and response to design objectives. Perfectly fitted in the engineering process, this division has achieved experience particularly in underground works and tunneling, slope stability, water resources, transportation and foundations (both in general and in specific technical problems involving rock and soil mechanics and seismic site analysis).

The geology division is able to give full support for all aspects regarding field activities and site investigations, geotechnical laboratory analysis, geologic and hydrogeologic data collection.

Massimo Parente is the manager of the geology division of Waterways.

Massimo Parente obtained a MSc in engineering geology (Rome 1991). He had a scholarship at Trinity College (USA, 1994) within the computer science and engineering department.

He has 20 years of experience in studies and designs in the field of civil engineering for dams, hydro-electrical power plants, roads and railways, housing. He is professionally affiliated with the geologists association of Latium for which he is the coordinator for the geo-engineering magazine.

Massimo Parente is the director of Setec Ingegneria, consulting engineering company, which operates mainly in geological and geotechnical design. Waterways and Setec Ingegneria are synergic and coordinated, sharing resources and strategies, with a permanent contract of cooperation.
